The front of the piece features a large panel with hand-painted scene of Imperial life at the palace: the Emperor is seated at a his table inside a garden temple, while lovely female courtiers fan him and tend to his needs. The Empress, seated in a lavish rickshaw with fanciful palanquin, is gently pushed while strolling the grounds while a courtier rides on horseback beside her. The back panel features a stunning scene of birds of paradise perched on rocks in an exotic floral and bamboo garden, with bugs and birds. The sides are done in lavish gilding with floral overlay and geometrical decorations. The bowl is marked and signed on the bottom.
